The right aircraft,
bought right.

Buying an aircraft is the easy part — buying the right one, at the right price, with no surprises in the logbooks, is where it gets hard. Will Smith Aviation represents buyers and sellers through the whole transaction: defining the mission, running the market, vetting candidates, managing the pre-buy, and negotiating the deal. And because we operate aircraft on our own Part 135 certificate, we can take it from purchase to revenue without ever changing hands.

What we do

Four ways we work a deal

Whether you're buying your first aircraft, upgrading, selling, or structuring shared ownership, the work is the same in spirit: protect your interest, price it honestly, and close cleanly.

01 · BUY-SIDE

Acquisition advisory

We represent the buyer end to end — independent of any one seller or broker — so the aircraft you close on is the right one for your mission, not the one someone needed to move.

  • Mission & budget definition — the make/model that actually fits
  • Market search across listings, off-market, and our network
  • Logbook, damage-history, and maintenance-status review
  • Pre-buy inspection management at a qualified facility
  • Price & terms negotiation through closing
02 · SELL-SIDE

Sales & brokerage

Selling an aircraft is a marketing and diligence exercise. We position the aircraft, qualify buyers, and manage the process so you net more and close faster — without the tire-kickers.

  • Realistic valuation against current market comps
  • Listing, photography, and spec-sheet presentation
  • Buyer qualification and showing coordination
  • Pre-buy and escrow management through closing
  • Discreet, off-market sales when privacy matters
03 · BUY → OPERATE

Acquisition to management

The advantage of buying through an operator: we recommend aircraft we'd be willing to put on our own certificate. Close with us, then place it into management, maintenance, and charter revenue — one team, aligned incentives.

  • Aircraft selected with operating economics in mind
  • Seamless hand-off into our Part 135 management program
  • In-house maintenance and 24/7 flight operations
  • Charter revenue to help offset the cost of ownership
04 · STRUCTURE

Ownership & capital structuring

Not every aircraft needs a single owner. We help structure co-ownership and syndicated ownership, and connect you with aviation lenders and finance partners to put the right capital behind the aircraft.

  • Co-ownership and shared-ownership structures
  • Syndicated ownership for groups and investor partners
  • Introductions to aviation lenders and finance partners
  • Coordination with your tax, legal, and finance advisors
How it goes

From first call to first flight

A typical buy-side acquisition follows the same path. The timeline depends on the aircraft and the market, but the steps don't change.

Define the mission

Where you fly, how often, how many seats, what runways — we translate that into the make, model, and vintage that fit, and a realistic budget to match.

Search the market

We work the listings, the off-market aircraft, and our operator network to build a short list of genuine candidates — not just what's advertised.

Evaluate & shortlist

Logbooks, damage history, AD/SB status, engine and maintenance programs, and ownership history. We rank candidates on what they'll actually cost to own, not just sticker price.

Offer & negotiate

We structure the letter of intent, negotiate price and terms, and protect your position on deposits, contingencies, and the inspection window.

Pre-buy inspection

We manage the pre-buy at a qualified facility, review squawks, and negotiate corrections or credits before you're committed.

Close & deliver

Escrow, title, registration, and delivery — coordinated with your counsel. If you're placing it into management, the hand-off to our flight department starts here.

What it costs

A straightforward fee structure

We agree the engagement in writing before any work starts, so you know exactly what representation costs going in. Typical structures:

ServiceTypical feeHow it works
Buyer's-side advisoryFlat fee or 1–5%A flat professional fee or a percentage of purchase price, scaled to aircraft size and deal complexity. Agreed up front in an engagement letter.
Sales & brokerageCommission on saleA sell-side commission, structured against the achieved sale price. Discreet off-market sales handled the same way.
Acquisition → managementReduced / creditedWhen you place the aircraft into our management program, acquisition fees can be reduced or credited — we earn on the long-term relationship.
Ownership structuringScoped per engagementCo-ownership and syndication work is scoped to the structure involved and coordinated with your tax and legal advisors.

Figures shown are typical ranges for orientation, not a quote. Every engagement is scoped to the specific aircraft, deal size, and complexity, and confirmed in a written engagement letter before work begins.

Acquisitions FAQ

What does an aircraft acquisition advisor do?
On the buyer's side, we define the right mission and aircraft, run the market search, evaluate candidates on maintenance status and damage history, manage the pre-buy inspection, and negotiate price and terms — representing the buyer's interest end to end through closing.
How are acquisition and brokerage fees structured?
Buyer's-side advisory is typically a flat professional fee or a percentage of the purchase price, scaled to the size and complexity of the deal. Sell-side brokerage is a commission on the sale. We agree the structure in writing in an engagement letter before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
Can you both help me buy an aircraft and then manage it?
Yes. Many clients buy through us and then place the aircraft on our FAA Part 135 certificate for management, maintenance, and charter revenue. Buying and operating under one roof keeps incentives aligned — we recommend the aircraft we'd be willing to stand behind operationally.
Do you help with financing, co-ownership, or syndication?
We can structure co-ownership and syndicated ownership and connect you with aviation lenders and finance partners. We are not a licensed financial or investment advisor; capital and securities matters are handled with the appropriate licensed professionals and counsel.
What size aircraft do you work with?
From piston twins and turboprops through light, midsize, and heavy jets. Our budget tiers run from roughly $1.5M into the $50M+ range; we advise on the right aircraft for the mission rather than pushing a particular make or model.
